Quake jolts Ilocos Sur, nearby provinces
VIGAN CITY – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 shook the province of Ilocos Sur at 2:27 early Monday morning.
Renato U. Solidum Jr, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said that the earthquake’s epicenter was located 46 kilometers southwest of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The quake was felt at intensity 4 in Vigan City, Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur and Bangued, Abra; intensity 3 in Baguio City; Laoag City and Sinait; and intensity 2 in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
According to Solidum, the strength of the earthquake was not damaging but he reminded the residents near the earthquake’s epicenter to be prepared always.

“So far, there is no tsunami alert and no damage to property was reported”, he said.
Vigan City Mayor Ferdinand C. Medina, in cooperation with the Phivolcs, recently conducted a seminar workshop on Tsunami Hazard Mapping for local and barangay officials.
Medina also distributed hundreds of posters on safety measures before, during and after the earthquake to guide local residents on what to do when disaster occurs. (PNA)
