Bomb explodes in Sual mayor’s frontyard

AN improvised bomb was exploded, followed by successive gunfires, at about 10 p.m. Sunday near the premises of the reelectionist mayor of Sual town.

No one was hurt in the explosion and gunfires as Mayor John Arcinue and his supporters were eating late supper inside his house after coming from their campaign sorties when the incident happened.

The explosion occurred at the gate and fence of Arcinue’s residence, along the national highway.

Initial investigation showed that what exploded was actually a home-made bomb as indicated by several fragments of the same found by investigators led by Senior Inspector Medardo Soriano from the crime scene.

The police also found several empty shells of M-16 armalite rifle at the premises of Arcinue, possibly indicating that his followers opened fire.

Several empty shells were also found outside the Arcinue compound.

]A report said that the explosion happened just before a convoy of Arcinue’s lone opponent, Luis Agbayani passed by.

Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez said the explosion is now being investigated thoroughly, hinting that it could be another election-related incident which now appears to be increasing as the campaign period nears the homestretch.
