San Carlenians still tense after kilings

SAN CARLOS CITY – The situation here is now markedly subdued following the slaying of Mayor Julian Resuello inside a crowded auditorium on Saturday night.

Superintendent Johnny Bacbac, chief of police here, admitted that the number of people going to the streets at night has decreased compared to days before the slaying.

A resident said business was affected somewhat as people are even afraid to go out early in the morning to buy “pandesal” from bakery stores or go to their favorite tennis courts to play on early mornings.

The tense situation eased a bit as members of the Regional Mobile Group of the police, numbering 34, arrived and became very visible in the streets and even at the premises of the city hall during the day and night.

Bacbac said there are now also members of the Presidential Security Group as well as those from the Philippine Army, all numbering 16, patrolling San Carlos City and securing other members of the Resuello family.

Bacbac said checkpoints along all roads leading to and going out of the city are being manned by organic members of the local police.

He added that so far, he has yet to receive a directive from the Commission on Elections stating that San Carlos City is now under the control of the Commission on Election.

Bacbac assured that if there is any directive at all to this effect, he will abide and will do his best to enforce the law.

Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil said on Tuesday that technically, San Carlos City is now under Comelec control due to an earlier statement made to this effect by Comelec Romeo Brawner, Comelec Commissioner in charge of Region 1.
