SAN CARLOS CITY, May 2, 2007 – Police announced here today that one of possibly two assailants of City Mayor Julian “Jolly” Resuello has been arrested while being treated for gunshot wounds in a local hospital.

It was not clear, and police were not saying, whether the hospital located within the city had itself informed the police about the suspect seeking treatment, or police had trailed him there on their own.

Police Supt. Isagani Nerez, Pangasinan police director, identified the arrested suspect as Angelito Soriano but withheld other details on his identity pending further investigation. Sources who agreed to talk only on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal information, however said Soriano was a bodyguard of a congressional candidate. Read more

SAN CARLOS CITY – The situation here is now markedly subdued following the slaying of Mayor Julian Resuello inside a crowded auditorium on Saturday night.

Superintendent Johnny Bacbac, chief of police here, admitted that the number of people going to the streets at night has decreased compared to days before the slaying.

A resident said business was affected somewhat as people are even afraid to go out early in the morning to buy “pandesal” from bakery stores or go to their favorite tennis courts to play on early mornings. Read more
