Prov’l gov’t now screening fresh batch of scholars

LINGAYEN – The provincial government is set to screen another batch of applicants for the Provincial Scholarship Program, a program expanded by Gov. Victor E. Agbayani to provide free education to poor but deserving college students in the province.

Ms. Erlinda C. Fernandez, chief administrative officer and program coordinator, said the qualifying examination is slated on May 9 at 8 a.m. at the Pangasinan National High School social hall.

Fernandez said the governor has expanded the scholarship program by increasing five-year collegiate courses and increasing the number of beneficiaries and tuition grants.

“The governor is happy to note that the program has produced thousands of professional teachers, engineers, agriculture technicians, mechanics, accountants and so forth, some of whom have made a mark in their chosen professions,” Fernandez said.

Interested applicants should bring original copy of their grading card of Form 138 with an average grade of 85 percent and above.

Submission of application will start on April 2, until May 4.

The provincial government has opened 100 new scholarship slots for the school year 207-2008. Each scholar receives an allowance of P7,000 every semester. (Jennifer P. Domantay/PIO)
