Set Heart Month celeb in Pangasinan
LINGAYEN – The provincial government of Pangasinan through the provincial health office will spearhead the celebration of “Heart Month” this February, according to Dr. Jackson D. Soriano, OIC-provincial health officer.
Soriano said the thrust of the celebration as encouraged by Gov. Victor Agbayani is to stress the importance of proper diet, regular physical exercise, and healthy lifestyle to maintain a healthy heart.
“The leading causes of human death have shifted from infectious diseases to degenerative diseases with hearth diseases leading the list,” Soriano said.
He said the major risks factors for these diseases are tobacco smoking, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.
One of the activities lined up for the “Heart Month” celebration is blood pressure screening available at the PHO Clinic and Laboratory at any time.
An “Alay Lakad” will be held on February 12, immediately after the flag ceremony in Lingayen, Soriano said.
The Alay Lakad will start from the Capitol Plaza and will pass through western portion of Maramba Boulevard, Avenida Rizal, eastern portion of Maramba Boulevard then back to Capitol Plaza. (Jennifer P.Domantay/PIO)
