Making Political History: Reverse tandem for Resuello pa-and-son in San Carlos

By DANNY O. SAGUN

SAN CARLOS CITY – Mayor Julian “Jolly” Resuello is set to write a history of sort on his last term in office by running as teammate of his son incumbent Vice-Mayor Julier “Ayoy” in the coming May elections.

Resuello in radio interviews said such unusual political plan was reached during consultations with his leaders and supporters although he admitted that some wanted him to seek a higher office like that of a congressman or even vice-governor.

He pointed out that he has many things to do yet for his city which he said could be achieved by returning to his old post as vice-mayor.

The young Resuello may face former Mayor Douglas Soriano, who had served as mayor for nine years before Julian took over in 1998.

The mayor said he did not want to see his efforts go to naught by putting the city again in the hands of persons who practically did nothing for the city’s progress, referring to the long reign of the Sorianos.

He said that observers and visitors are one in their conclusion now that San Carlos vastly improved in the last eight-and-a-half years economically, politically and peace and order-wise.

Di ko masikmura na babalik tayo sa panahon na maraming goons na naglipana dala-dala ang kanilang mabibigat na armas at mawala lang bigla ang ating mga pinaghirapan ,” he said.

Julier had served as youth representative and later as ABC president before being elected vice-mayor.

He was actually made a substitute for former Councilor Ansberto Cagampan, the supposed running mate of Resuello in the last elections. Cagampan instead crossed party lines and eventually ran against Resuello but lost. The father-and-son tandem prevailed over their rivals.

The mayor was also being egged to run for congressman in the third district. “Masyado nang masikip,” he noted however, pointing to the many personalities reportedly wanting to run.

At least five names have indicated their desire to seek the position – retired police general Reynaldo Velasco, Rachel Arenas daughter of philanthropist Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas, Bayambang Mayor Leodovico de Vera, Customs deputy commissioner Gallant Soriano and Generoso Tulagan, Jr., son of the incumbent congressman.
