SO unfortunate that unless two Dagupan City councilors who are my barangaymates – Alex de Venecia and Vlad Mata – and another one, Joey Tamayo, a distant relative, effectively counter the snowballing move in time, they could find themselves being junked in the May polls by, now hear this, the city’s tricycle operators and drivers sector.

My favorite loquacious trike driver claims the three have been tagged “enemies” by the trikemen largely because of their actions or inactions on matters affecting their livelihood. It seems, from my friend-driver’s account, the operators and drivers recently held a powwow and agreed to conduct a creeping campaign among their kind “to make them (the 3 aldermen) feel the wrath of those whose lives they have made miserable.”

NO CONGRESSIONAL aspirant from the third district appeared at the weekly Patrima Kapihan last Thursday. Rather surprising considering that there are at least five names being floated as interested to run. For that they missed a very rare opportunity to present their programs, get scrutinized by the pubic thru the media and at the same time get sympathy votes.

On the part of retired police General Reynaldo Velasco, one of the aspirants, at least he had earlier graced the first edition of the weekly Kapihan forum this year and mediamen would have sort of gauged him, his personality and his programs/plans, by now.

THE Philippine postal service is here to stay despite the advent of modern technologies in communication and the competition posed by private courier firms, an official of the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) said Tuesday.

Manager Diosdado A. Garcia of the Philpost central-western Pangasinan district said that Philpost remains viable and relevant to the times with the introduction of innovative service packages.

Many clients also prefer the “express mail” service (domestic and international) being offered by the postal service because of its lower rates over those offers by private competitors. He noted that express mails cost only about P50 for the first 20 grams which is much lower than those of private couriers.
