Uy cleared by PNP drug operatives
THE police have “cleared” a provincial board member of any involvement in illegal drugs after being tagged in a local tabloid report as “father of illegal drug pushers in the 5th district of Pangasinan.”
Chief Inspector Noel Espinoza, chief of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (PAIDSOTG) of the Police Provincial Office (PPO), said nowhere in their list of drug personalities is the name of Board Member Danilo Uy.
Appearing before the provincial board in a committee meeting presided over by Senior Board Member and Majority Floor Leader John Agerico Rosario, Espinoza virtually denied the report in the tabloid “Banat” that Uy is involved in illegal drugs.
(At presstime, some media sources said Uy intimated to mediamen that one of the supposed authors of the “attack” against him has owned up and apologized for the allegations.)
Uy, an ex-officio member of the provincial board being president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL), Pangasinan chapter, earlier personally sought his own investigation by the police and National Bureau of Investigation in order to clear his name.
Uy was put in a bind when the tabloid “Banat”, which did not place any staff box at all nor indicated its office address, bannered a story detailing his alleged involvement in illegal drugs by his personally interceding with the police in behalf of arrested drug pushers.
Denying his involvement ion the matter, Uy asked for a police investigation so that the police and the NBI can get the “real drug lord”, if there is any, in Pangasinan.
The last controversy involving Uy before the Banat expose was when some newspapers reported his having allegedly dressed down a lady vice mayor, Charizzma Carancho of Urdaneta City, for some unclear reasons.
