SAYING it was payback time to the people for the support they have extended to her administration throughout past difficult times of the country, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated yesterday the newly-completed Domalandan bridge in Lingayen costing some P745 million as one of several projects programmed for the realization of her regional cluster visions.

The bridge, a vital span between eastern and western Pangasinan across the Limahong channel that empties its water into the Lingayen Gulf, measures 600.64 lineal meters and is one of the longest bridges in Pangasinan.

WITH the Domalandan bridge now reopened, the whole 600 lineal meter length of it, travel to and from western Pangasinan will be effectively cut down by some 30 minutes – the time it takes at present for one to negotiate the circuitous alternate road via Socony in Bugallon.

We must commend not just the planners and fund sourcers for the reconstructed bridge –from President Arroyo, to Speaker de Venecia to Public Works and Highways Secretary Jun Ebdane and the national budget and internal revenue and finance departments for making the Pangasinenses’ dream come beautifully true, but also the local workhorses from DPWH regional Director Fidel D. Ginez, District Engineer Rodolfo Dion,
Provincial Engineer Divinia de Leon and the determined and highly skilled workcrews and supervising engineers of Ciriaco Construction, the bridge contractor, who worked week in and week out for some six years on the project.
