Jobs abroad for diligent HS grads now possible

THERE’S a chance even for even unemployed high school graduates to work abroad.

Unemployed people, even if they are only high school graduates, can be employed as skilled workers in other countries if they undergo training under the supervision of the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez said TESDA recently wrote his office to inform him that they have slots for scholars who would take up vocational courses so that they can qualify as skilled workers abroad.

The scholarship, he said, was made available by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as part of her job-generation program, each of which is equivalent from P5,000 to P40,000.

Fernandez said that TESDA has announced that there are hundreds of thousands of job opportunities abroad for skilled workers who are guaranteed good salaries.

He cited for instance Canada which is in need of women welders who will have salaries of up to P120,000 per month, still excluding overtime pay.

TESDA also announced that it has a training for domestic helpers (now known as certified home managers) who are guaranteed from U.S. 400 dollars to U.S. 600 dollars a month abroad and who would still get more, depending on the benevolence employers.

Fernandez said that as of now, regular domestic helpers only get from U.S. 150 dollars to U.S. 200 dollars a month, especially in the Middle East. (PNA)
