Orientation-training for Japan jobseekers

THE Dagupan City government spearheaded a tie-up project with the Phil-Japan Gijutsu Iten Foundation, Inc (PJGIFI) for an orientation and training for Dagupeños who wish to work in Japan.

More than a hundred applicants from Dagupan and other towns in Pangasinan attended the on-the-dot orientation for Japan job aspirants held at the Dagupan Business Center, Astrodome building.

Latecomers were no longer entertained so as to instill early on among the applicants the value of time management, which is one of the skills to be taught.

PJGIFI is a non-profit, non-government organization which tied-up with the city government because it has “great trust in Dagupeños and Pangasinenses”

Philippine Employment Service Administration (PESO) City Manager Melita Malong said the one-day orientation aims to screen, train and equip applicants with skills necessary for available jobs in Japan like construction workers, welders, hog raisers, farm workers and machine operators for males. Female jobs range from poultry workers, laundry and food processing workers.

The program, which started in the city in the year 2000 to give training and employment, offers a series of tests for an applicant. Those who will pass the IQ test can go with the medical exams. Only those who are medically fit can advance to the completion of the requirement for interview by the Japanese employers in Makati City.

An applicant who fails in the initial IQ test can re-take the exam not more than three times.

City Mayor Benjamin S.Lim welcomed the applicants to the orientation and reminded them to always obey rules.

“Aside from skills upgrading and economic upliftment, this program aims to develop the character of a person”, Lim said. “It teaches a trainee to be courteous, organized and obedient bearing in mind that Japan enforces strict rules and regulations.” (PIA-Pangasinan)
