IS DAGUPAN City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim really bent on facing House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr. in next year’s elections?
This question cropped up as the mayor was reported to be frequenting towns in the fourth district one of which was a recent meeting with barangay officials in San Fabian.
A radio report said that Lim met with the barangay captains of the town soon after meeting with their counterparts from the city to talk about the coming barangay night in the coming city fiesta.
The mayor was said to be linking up with San Fabian officials opposed to Mayor Mojamito Libunao like Councilor Roland Villegas, the town’s Liga ng mga Barangay president, who is said to be running for mayor in the coming local elections.
Villegas and former Mayor Romulo Magliba have joined forces to try to bring down Libunao, reports said.
Interestingly, the town’s barangay captains have been at odds with the mayor because of what they deemed as ghost projects. They asked the Commission on Audit to look into such projects like a regraveling project worth P500,000 and maintenance of heavy equipment.
The complaining barangay officials are now obviously identified with Villegas’ group.
Libunao denied any anomalies in the implementation of such projects describing such complaints as politically-motivated.
If Lim decides to run for congressman, Villegas will be his candidate for mayor.
De Venecia, on the other hand, will campaign for Libunao for his re-election bid.
Many however do not consider Lim, as of now, very serious in his bid to face the House leader in the coming polls. Some of his well-meaning friends want him to seek re-election. (DOS)
