Wanted: New public cemetery lot for Dagupan
THE city health office is looking for a suitable site for a new public cemetery, according to city health officer Leonard Carbonel.
The present cemetery in barangay Poblacion Oeste is already congested and flood prone. Many who came to visit their dead last Wednesday in observance of the “All Saints’ Day” were dismayed to see that the cemetery was already under water because of heavy downpour in the afternoon. Carbonel said his office has been tasked by Vice-Mayor Alvin Fernandez, now acting mayor, to scout for a place to put up a new cemetery in view of the condition at the present cemetery.
It will be recalled that the late Councilor Miguel Caguioa wanted the relocation of the cemetery during his time but the move was not given due attention. Now city officials apparently saw the immediate need to put up a new one because of the prevailing situation in Careenan.
Carbonel noted however the difficulty in finding a relocation area for a new cemetery within city limits.
Observers said the matter may be forgotten anew and would only be recalled November 1 next year. (DOS)
