FARMERS have been urged to have their farms undergo soil analysis to accurately determine agricultural inputs they need like fertilizers.
Dalisay Moya, assistant provincial agriculturist, noted that some farmers do not actually realize the full potential of their farms because of the use of wrong inputs in their farms. She said that agricultural lands tend to become acidic as time passes after continued use of chemical or inorganic fertilizers.

BAYAMBANG – The provincial office of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) reiterated the rule that consultants are not allowed to supervise offices or units of government agencies.
CSC Provincial Officer John Rivera, speaking to newsmen here, clarified the rules on consultants when he conducted a seminar on CSC rules and regulations with municipal officials and employees.
“The word consultant, as it connotes, is that he or she is hired by the head of office, like the mayor, and their relationship is limited between the two of them,” he said.

LINGAYEN – The provincial government here will conduct the second round of Garantisadong Pambata Bakuna, Bitamina A, Breastfeeding, Purga sa Bulate slated from October 16-20, according to Dr. Jackson D. Soriano, OIC-provincial health officer.
“The immunization and vitamin supplementation activities are part of the intensified effort initiated by Gov. Victor E. Agbayani to eradicate malnutrition in the province and to safeguard the health of in-school and out-of-school children against ailments such as tuberculosis, diphtheria and measles,” Soriano said.

THE Department of Public Works and Highways has announced that construction of a new P903 million bridge across the Pantal river here has finally started and is due for completion in 22 months or earlier.
DPWH Regional Director Fidel D.Ginez said target date of completion for the soon-to-be longest bridge in Dagupan as set by the contractor, Toyo Construction of Japan, is September 2008.

THE city of Dagupan will soon be the center of aqua culture technology in the country with the opening early next year of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ JdV Asian Aquaculture Academy.
JDV, the initials of the name of Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr, was attached because it was he who provided the P30 million for the construction of the academy’s initial two-storey building within the 24-hectare National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center.

PREPARATIONS for the construction of a giant re-regulating pond to be built by the government for the foreign-funded Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (ARIIP) are well underway with relocation of 34 affected families already started.
NIA Regional Director John Celeste said some P120 million from the Philippine government’s coffer is now being used for the relocation of the families from the site that will eventually be submerged in order to make way for the re-regulating pond.
The P120 million formed part of the 10 percent counterpart of the Philippine government for the project that was estimated to cost P7.8 billion, the amount of which is a loan now being negotiated by the country with the Japanese government.
