BAYAMBANG – A public school teacher is in hot water after he locked up 12 pupils inside a classroom for two hours last Sept. 8.
Parents of the Grade VI pupils of the Bayambang Central School all trooped to the police to complain against the teacher, Von Ryan Cayabyab, for illegally detaining their children.
Cayabyab is now facing a complaint for illegal detention and violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Child Abuse Law before the city prosecutor office in San Carlos City, filed by parents of the pupils. Read the rest of this entry »



BINALONAN – September 11 was marked here culturally as Bulosan Day in honor of the eminent national poet and writer Carlos Bulosan, a son of this town.
A municipal ordinance No. 2006-01, was passed on May 29, 2006 by the sangguniang bayan headed by Vice Mayor Myrna Bell C. Uy declaring Sept. 11 and every year thereafter as Carlos Bulosan Day in the entire town where Bulosan was born on Nov. 2. 1911. Read the rest of this entry »



MALASIQUI – Although already recently appointed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as administrator of the National Irrigation Administration, retired Police Director General Arturo Lomibao is still going around in Pangasinan as though trying to feel the pulse of the people on a possible bid for governorship.

A TASK force has been proposed here to help ease the plight of some 150 workers of the city government who were laid off in a mass purge starting Sept. 1 this year.

A BIG nursery for jatropha (tagumbao to the Ilocanos) is one of the projects identified to be built in the North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle super region.
In the briefing paper for the NLAQ outlined last month here by Presidential Management Staff Director General Arthur Yap before governors, city mayors and heads of regional government line agencies, the massive planting of jatropha is being encouraged by the government to produce cheap bio-diesel fuel for vehicles and reduce consumption of costly gasoline and diesel fuel imported from the Middle East. A FAST lane was created at the Region 1 Medical Center here for suspected patients of dengue fever being brought into the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Dr. Jesus Canto, R1MC chief, said this is in line with the recent memorandum of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III ordering that dengue patients be given the utmost medical attention that they need.

CITY Mayor Benjamin S. Lim once again called the attention of Liga ng mga Barangay president Eric Muñoz to the collective complaint of members of the different barangay councils and punong barangays of Dagupan regarding his perennial absence in meetings of the Liga and in the Sangguniang Panlungsod sessions.

“More alarming is your failure to call for quorum in the Liga meetings. It seems that you have lost moral authority over your constituents,” the mayor said in a letter dated September 5 to Muñoz.

THE sister-city relationship between Dagupan City and Iwata, Japan took on a new phase after Iwata City officials visited Mayor Benjamin Lim anew on September 13 to discuss the possibility of economic, cultural and educational exchanges.

“They came to Dagupan not only to renew ties but to discuss the possibility of exchanges between businessmen, Rotary clubs and student exchanges,” said Mayor Lim.

SAN MANUEL – The National Transmission Commission (TransCo) awaits with bated breath the decision of the Regional Trial Court of Dagupan City on the civil case filed by the Dagupan Electric Corporation against the Dagupan City government, because it has great implication on their own situations.

Jose Arellano district manager of TransCo based in San Manuel town, acknowledged that the decision of the RTC would have an impact on TransCo because it also has several electric poles installed in Dagupan City which it uses for transmission of electricity.
