Dad wants city to help 150 laid off EWs

A TASK force has been proposed here to help ease the plight of some 150 workers of the city government who were laid off in a mass purge starting Sept. 1 this year.
City Councilor Alex de Venecia proposed the creation of the task force to Mayor Benjamin Lim and Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez so the laid off workers can easily be absorbed by the private sector.
It was Lim who issued the memorandum to all departments in the city government for the lay off of EWs and technical consultants for the city to save at least P1 million a month till December.
It is a pity that the workers who had proven their industry, dedication to duty and their excellent worth ethics had to go at this time of the year, de Venecia said.
Those laid off comprised more than half of the 287 EWs and technical consultants of the city who had been working in the city government for years already.
De Vencia said the task force could be harnessed to provide opportunities for the laid off workers to obtain retraining, re-tooling and re-education so that they can easily get another employment.
