SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The scheduled opening soon of chartered flights of the Asian Spirit to the San Fernando Airport here will greatly enhance business activities at the Poro Point Special Economic and Freeport Zone (PPSEFZ).

This was revealed by the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) as it supported calls from local officials in La Union for Asian Spirit to open chartered flights to the airport here.

Antonio Manguiat, vice president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the PPMC that manages the 260-hectare Poro Point – a former American base, said that the chartered flights will create more investment opportunities and further boost the region’s tourism program.

The Asian Spirit airline was scheduled to have two flights in a week (Mondays and Friday) in order to accommodate passengers from Manila to San Fernando City, La Union and vice versa.
According to Manguiat, the 19-seater chartered plane (LET 410) will leave Manila Domestic Airport for San Fernando Airport at 8 am Monday and will fly back.

On Fridays, the plane will take-off in Manila at 1 p.m. and return at 4 p.m.

“The plane fare for one-way flight costs P1,700 per passenger,” he said. Flight time is only 50 minutes.

“The PPMC, with its airport crew and security, will assist flight crew of Asian Spirit in handling the flight operation, Manguiat disclosed.

Both La Union Gov. Victor Ortega and his wife, San Fernando City Mayor Jane Ortega, welcomed the commercial flights of the Asian Spirit airline.

In a related development, Vigan City Mayor Ferdinand C. Medina meanwhile said that the Vigan city government is preparing the necessary requirement for the existing Mindoro Airport in Vigan to accommodate chartered flights of different airline companies from Manila to Vigan City and vice versa. Medina revealed that this will support the city’s tourism industry as well as boost investment opportunities. (PNA)
