Pangasinan soon to open first-ever crisis center

LINGAYEN – The provincial administration is set to open soon a first-ever Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) to serve the needs of individuals and families in dire trouble.

Emilio P. Samson, Jr., provincial social welfare development officer, said the CIC is a special unit operating on a 24-hour basis to provide integrated services such as immediate rescue and protection, provision of direct financial and material assistance, augmentation during disaster and referrals for immediate medical, legal, psychosocial services including temporary shelter to clients.

Pushing for the establishment of the crisis center, Gov. Victor E. Agbayani noted the growing number of troubled wives and even husbands having difficulties in their relationship brought about by assorted problems.

“We need help these persons as part of our responsibilities,” he said.

“From time to time, some housewives or even single mothers come to our office to seek help. There are those who need counseling and rehabilitation. Thus, the concept of the crisis intervention center cropped up,” Samson said.

Target clientele of the CIC includes victims of physical abuse, victims of sexual abuse, victims of psychological abuse, victims of economic abuse, victims of disaster and other tragedies.

The crisis center is now almost complete with full assistance from the governor. (Donna F. Domagas/PIO)
