…while beachlovers at Tondaligan still frolic in the waves

GIANT waves hitting the shores of the Bonuan Blue Beach here at Tondaligan Park during a storm surge has not kept visitors from enjoying the Bonuan waters.

Weathermen said that the big waves were caused by storm surge from the last typhoon ‘Caloy’ that exited two days ago to the south China sea.

Tondaligan Park administrator Dino Zabala said tourists, riding in buses and from adjacent provinces, like Tarlac, still keep coming despite the cloudy skies in the horizon and the rise of tide the past week.

Some of the beach sheds, which are only a few meters from the water and serving as sing-along bars at night, are being drenched by the waves.

The high tide flooded even inland areas of Dagupan, especially Dior Village on Arellano street, which is near a river tributary.

A report said that the storm surge was felt stronger in the province of Ilocos Sur since Tuesday morning.

Zabala said five Philippine National Red Cross-trained lifeguards had been posted along the beach to assist swimmers who may be put in distress as a result of the high waves.

“We can’t discourage tourists from coming as this is a public beach. We can only advise them to swim in the safe areas within sight of lifeguards,” Zabala said.
