Hair strands may solve Judge Paas slay case
THE result of DNA test ion hair strands found by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in the clutched hands of the late Pasay City Judge Estrellita Paas may hold the key to the secret in the latter’s slaying sometime in September last year.
This was disclosed by Dave Alunan, executive officer of the NBI branch in Dagupan City, who said his office continue to investigate the slaying despite the dismissal of the murder case filed against two suspects earlier arrested by the police.
The two are Elmer Cabiles of Asingan and Jornald Vargas of Balungao whose case for murder was dismissed by Regional Trial Court Judge Ulysses Raciles Butuyan sometime later last year for lack of probable cause against them, stirring a big controversy and apparently provoking death threats on Butuyan and other parties.
Alunan said hair strands were found in the hands of Paas and were subjected to the DNA test in Manila b it has taken a long time for the test to be conducted and the result known.
A lawyer, Alunan acknowledged that the evidence presented by the police against the two accused (Cabiles and Vargas) were weak, thus the reason for the dismissal of the case.
Both Cabiles and Vargas were arrested separately by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
The NBI joined the investigation of the case a day after the slaying of Judge Paas right in her home in Poblacion Natividad town.
At the same time, Alunan observed that the relatives of the late judge who are lawyers, are withholding their evidence until after Butuyan inhibits himself from the case. (PNA)
