Corn Congress set May 4-6 in Dagupan
THE 4th Philippine National Corn Congress will be held here on May 4 to 6 under the auspices of the Philippine Maize, Inc. on the theme “Masaganang Maisan, Maunlad na Bayan”.
Agriculture Secretary Domingio Panganiban will keynote the three-day Congress slated at the Leisure Coast Resort in Bonuan Binloc here, to be attended by various stakeholders of the corn industry from different parts of the country.
Panganiban will also swear in officers of PhilMaize and the Philippine Corn Board.
Rosalie Ellasus, chairperson of the Congress, said the stakeholders will come together for the purpose of achieving the goal of sustainability both in corn and livestock production in order to attain stability in price of corn and feeds.
The Congress aims to enrich knowledge in production, postharvest, financing and enterprise; broaden insights on policies affecting corn industry; and aims to advocate reforms and measures towards a more competitive corn industry.
It will hold technical sessions in corn financing, production technologies, particularly on seed varieties and fertilizers; farm mechanization, postharvest, mycotoxin and testing; updates on the Asian corn borer as well as on post-commercial monitoring of biotech corn, roundup ready corn as well as corn farming practices.
