2 Pangasinan barangays earn ‘friendliest’ tag

LABRADOR – Two barangays from Pangasinan have been named “friendliest barangay” in North Luzon by the National Transmission Corporation (Transco).

Barangay Bolo of this small town in central Pangasinan and Abot Molina of Umingan town in eastern Pangasinan were the latest to join the ranks of transmission line’s “friendliest barangays” along with barangay Umangan of Aliaga town in Nueva Ecija, according to the Transco District III office based in San Manuel town.

Each of the three winning barangays received a plaque of appreciation and a cash prize of P25,000 in separate awarding ceremonies in February and March.

Mayor Ernesto Acain, who has been seeking funds from the National Power Corporation and Transco as the town’s share being the host of two power substations and a neighbor of Sual where the coal-fired power plant is located, together with Bolo barangay chair Dominador Pabondia led local officials and residents in accepting the award during a simple ceremony.

Acain, in his short message, congratulated Bolo for garnering the award and pledged support to Transco projects.

Launched in 1999, the Search for Most Transmission Line Friendly local government unit (LGU) aims to recognize the noteworthy efforts of host barangays in helping prevent electrocution and pilferage of tower parts and other materials, as well as observing the transmission line right-of-way easements, Transco said.
