This writer together with some fellow journalists covered the Mapandan’s Hapag Pandan Cookfest last April 6. The cooking competition was part of the 4th Pandan Festival.
 
There’s a saying “to see is to believe.” Our experience was “you have to taste it to appreciate it.”

In short, “pian antam su ibabagam” or “tapno ammum ti istorya na!” kas kuna dagiti apong tayo.
 
Kalderetang Bayawak sa Gata, Ginataang Palekpek (also known as ibong bato-bato), Adobong Pugo sa Gata, Adobong Wild Duck with Pandan, Tolya Burger, Sweet and Spicy Baked Beldat, Kohol with Gabi sa Gata. Some of beverages entered during the competition were kaimito (star apple)-melon-pandan with gelatin, Pandan wine, pandan camote juice, fresh tea with pandan. We tasted them all and it tasted good.

The Holy Week is the last week of Lent, or the week that immediately precedes Easter Sunday. To us Christians, this is a time to commemorate and enact the Passion and death of Jesus Christ through various observances and services of worship.
 
To enable us to have more time for spiritual reflection during these important Christian holidays, it is going to be a long weekend as usual, enabling everyone to have a four-day vacation that will culminate on Easter Sunday.
 
Unfortunately, to many, the Holy Week is just another long vacation. As early as Wednesday afternoon, for sure, long queues of vehicles, including government-owned, would be seen in the highways to Baguio City or to the beaches of Pangasinan and La Union.
