Globalization, a challenge to Pinoy traders — Orbos

FORMER Pangasinan Gov. Oscar Orbos called globalization both a threat and a challenge for the Filipinos for them to improve their products so that these can be competitive in the world market.

Orbos addressed the convention of the Evangelical Business People and Entrepreneurs for Social Transformation (eBest) at the Dagupan People’s Astrodome last Monday.

The convention spearheaded by Rev. Mario Tomboc, had for its theme: Philippine Economic Challenges and Potential Impact of Globalization.

Responding to the theme of the convention, Orbos said it simply means that in a global environment, one has to strive even harder, struggle even harder, sacrifice even more so that one can compete with products of other countries.

Noting that participants to the convention are businessmen with deep Christian moorings, he said business should be taken merely as an opportunity to serve.

He conceded that globalization will always be a threat because economic struggle should always be a kind of competitive of activity.

“You have to do your best every time in a global market. The challenge is actually greater in a globalized economy than when one is selling his or her products to the local community.

He said globalization is not something mysterious and awesome. It should always bring to anyone what is fundamentally the weapon against any kind of opposition.
