Gina de V to help ‘orphaned’ mothers in Pangasinan’s 4th District
MRS. Gina de Venecia, wife of Speaker Joe de Venecia is bringing her crusade to help grieving mothers to the fourth district of Pangasinan.
She will meet with all mothers who are orphaned by their children in an untimely manner at her Bonuan residence in Dagupan City on April 1 for the launching of INA (Inang Naulila Sa Anak) Foundation in her home district.
Ina Foundation is an organization that she co-founded with Ms. Ali Sotto to provide psychosocial support to bereaved mothers through programs aimed at helping them move “from a place of numbing grief to a place of hope.”
“In our matriarchal society, the mother is the center of the family. Her state of mind must be stable but grief can derail her plans,” de Venecia said.
“That’s why it’s so important to have a support group for mothers. At present, there is no formal organization that supports mothers when they lose a child,”she added. .The foundation will answer that need, according to her.
With the help of the DSWD and the Local Government Units, INA will facilitate the training of barangay health workers to serve as grief counselors in times of disaster.
Mrs. de Venecia has also coordinated with the Department of Trade and Industry to give livelihood projects and the Development Bank of the Philippines to extend micro-finance programs to the mothers-in-grief.
For membership inquiries, she refers interested parties to the respective wives of the mayors in Mangaldan, San Fabian, Manaoag, and San Jacinto. In Dagupan City, interested parties may contact Cheryl Cerdan at Speaker de Venecia’s District Office, at telephone number 523-6391.
