SAN CARLOS CITY — Is politics rearing its ugly head again in this city?

This question cropped up in the wake of the slay try on Mayor Julian Resuello Thursday night during a birthday party in barangay Bolingit, where the suspect was said to be a bodyguard of former Mayor Douglas Soriano.

Alert bodyguards of the mayor prevented suspect PO3 Juanito Menor, from getting nearer to inflict harm on him.

Menor was said to be drunk when he arrived and confronted Resuello and moved ready to draw his gun, reports sad.

At the police station where he was taken after the incident, he managed to escape while Resuello was at the office of Supt. Pedro Austria, city police chief to discuss the matter. Unconfirmed reports said he sought refuge at the former mayor’s house.

Menor was the subject of complaints during his stint at the city police station. He was subsequently assigned to the provincial headquarters and then detailed to Camp Crame.

The city police is set to file charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms against him.

Efforts to contact former mayor Soriano proved futile at presstime.
