Munoz appeals to colleagues: 1 more chance
BELEAGUERED Tambac barangay captain Eric Munoz Wednesday expressed hope any problem confronting the city’s Liga ng mga Barangay can be settled among the village heads themselves.
Some 28 barangay captains have reportedly filed a petition seeking his ouster for his alleged mediocre performance and leadership. The petition was submitted to the national Liga president James Marty Lim, it was learned.
The group also met with Mayor Benjamin S. Lim to seek his blessing. Lim however decided to stay neutral and told the group he was leaving the matter to them.
Lim apparently does not want to antagonize Munoz and create animosity between him and the village heads which move may affect his political plans especially now that he has announced his intention to seek anew the fourth district seat in Congress and fight incumbent the House Speaker himself, Rep. Jose C. de Venecia, Jr.
Trying to hang on to his post, Munoz asked his colleagues to tell him personally any grievance they have against him. “Hindi naman maganda kung reoganization agad ang nasa isip kung may problema na puwede namang mapagusapan at maayos,” he told a radio interview.
Complaints against him include his frequent absences at the sessions of the sangguniang panlungsod being an ex-officio member and the non-holding of regular meetings of the league.
Munoz denied the charges saying his absences at the SP sessions were justified, he being on official business on such times. He also said that he has been performing his duties at the sanggunian and giving priority to the welfare of the barangays like the grant of P100,000 for every barangay from the city government.
His colleagues disappointment with his lackluster performance may have basis after all however based on the mere “satisfactory” rating given by the Department of Interior and Local Government t the association because of the irregular holding of Liga meetings.
The city DILG office said it could not give a “very satisfactory” rating for such kind of performance. (DOS/PIA)
