‘Reorg!”cry 28 barangay captains of Dagupan City

A PETITION has been submitted to the League of Barangays of the Philippines in Manila seeking the ouster of the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay chapter in Dagupan.

Twenty-eight of the 31 barangay captains of the city sought the ouster of Liga ng mga Barangay president Eric Muñoz in a petition sent to James Marty Lim, national president of the national barangay league.

Lim has 15 days to decide on the petition upon receiving it.

He may summon Muñoz to air his side or may moto propio decide on the petition if there is a convincing evidence against the latter.

If Lim acts on the petition, he may set a reorganizations of the Liga ng Mga Barangay in which Muñoz may run for president again if the wants to.

Only three barangay captains did not sign the petition, namely Muñoz, and the barangay captain of Pogo Grande and Pugaro who was hospitalized.

The petitioners led by Barangay Captain Guillermo Vallejos of Poblacion Oeste cited loss of confidence as their reason in seeking the ouster of Muñoz, who held the position for four years now, including being an ex-officio member of the city council.

Vallejos denounced Muñoz for his poor performance as president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and as an ex-officio member of the city council due to his frequent absences in both meetings and sessions.

The fate of Muñoz now depends on Mayor Benjamin Lim who backed Muñoz when he ran for president of the Liga ng mga Barangay 2002.

Sources close to the mayor however said he is abandoning Muñoz for the latter to fend off for himself against the charges of his fellow barangay captains. (PNA)
