BINALONAN may anytime this week remit the provincial government’s share in the collections of real property tax in that town, it was gathered Thursday.
Provincial Treasurer Ramon Criostomo said he was told by the municipal treasurer last week that the town had finally decided to remit the RPT share and a check for the purpose was readied for signing by Mayor Ramon Guico, Jr.
The municipality, it will be recalled, chose to stop remitting the province’s share in view of what Guico described as discrimination by the provincial government in the implementation of projects funded by RPT that seems to favor other towns over his.

THE serial bomber of Dagupan has struck again, this time hurting an 11-year-old scavenger.
The victim, identified as Jaime Brillo III of Herrero-Perez, a Grade II pupil, sustained injuries in his hand and parts of his body when a device exploded while he was rummaging thru a garbage pile Tuesday morning at the back portion of the former Pantranco terminal, now used as holding area for various transport groups.
The police have yet to identify the culprit and motive for the bombing.

URDANETA CITY – Some 50 people in Pangasinan and several others in Ilocos Sur were gypped by a glib-tongued woman recruiter who promised all her victims non-existent jobs in Spain.
The suspect was identified as Leticia Ganaden, 44, of barangay Mabanogbog, Urdaneta City who was arrested by the police in Mandaluyong City where she fled after being wanted in Pangasinan.

TORN between his ties with the beleaguered administration of President Arroyo and his love for his former profession as journalist, House Speaker Jose de Venecia has been trying to balance his views on the present crisis facing the nation.
In a radio interview, De Venecia, who has remained an ally of the President in the face of several attempts to unseat her, said that he favors the lifting of Presidential Proclamation 1017 declaring a state of emergency in order for the country to return to normalcy. (At presstime, the President has lifted her declaration of emergency.)
He however defended the President for taking necessary moves to quell coup attempts and other destabilization efforts.

DAGUPAN City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim and Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat found a lot of things in common about their cities as the two formally forged a sister cityhood pact on February 24 in Zamboanga City in time for its charter day.
“If Dagupan City is the Bangus Capital of the World, Zamboanga is the sardines capital of the Philippines,” Lim said. Lobregat, for his part, added that both Dagupan and Zamboanga are sports and trading centers in which their respective populations double during the day.

SUSPENSION of permits to carry firearms among civilian gun-holders may still be in effect despite the lifting of, Presidential Proclamation No. 1017 declaring a State of National Emergency, throughout the country.
No contrary order or announcement has been handed down by authorities as yet as gleaned from the Pangasinan PNP through its website www.pnp-pangasinan.com. The website said the permit suspension was being carried out in order to prevent or suppress lawless violence.

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Bantay, Ilocos sur – Three persons were killed and nine others seriously hurt when a mini-dump truck bumped into a coconut tree beside the national highway in Barangay Las – ud, Tagudin town recently.
The driver, identified as Jemuel Manangan of Villaviciosa, Abra, panicked and lost control of the wheels when an unidentified vehicle overtook him along the national highway.

TINDAHAN NATIN OUTLETS SELL LPG BRAND GASUL AT DISCOUNT
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated recently on Agham Road, Barangay Pag-asa, Quezon City the first Tindahan Natin convenience store in Metro Manila to sell liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at lower than market prices as part of the administration’s pro-poor program.
The discounted cooking gas will be sold to low-income families of the eight barangays.
The President launched the Tindahan Natin program last month as part of the government’s initiative to expand the delivery of basic goods and services to the poor.

LINGAYEN — The police are now securing all vital installations in Pangasinan in view of the still continuing threat of destabilization by both rightist and leftist groups with the aid of their civilian backers.
A report said that Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Alan Purisima has deployed policemen around the San Roque Multi-Purpose Project in San Manuel town, the Sual Coal-Fired Power Plant as well as the power stations of the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) located in Labrador and San Manuel towns.
Both power plants supply electric power to the Luzon grid.
Also being secured are communications towers and facilities of various telecommunications companies located in the province that may be sabotaged by elements of the destabilization forces.
