Ultra stampede: Pangasinense among the dead now home

MALASIQUI – The lone Pangasinense who perished Saturday in a stampede by thousands of people queuing for a chance to get inside Philsports Arena (formerly the ULTRA) in Pasig and join the popular television game show Wowowee arrived Tuesday night in a coffin.

Jovita Apalla, 50, mother of four, of barangay Tubor here left their home Thursday to try her luck in the television program where she hoped to be chosen as contestant and get a chance to win in its million peso promo.

It was supposed to be the first anniversary of the noon-time television program hosted by comedian Willy Revillame.

Belonging to the poorest of the poor in Malasiqui, Apalla wished she would win in the promo so that she would have money to pay for the hospitalization of her husband who is suffering from asthma.

Instead, the 50-year old housewife who was to celebrate her birthday on Feb. 15 this year, was among the 74 listed dead in the unfortunate incident that happened early Saturday morning.

The body of Mrs. Apalla was brought to their home by members of the ABS-CBN Foundation escorted by the Malasiqui Police at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. (PNA)
