Southern Mindanao leads in PRISAA national games
LINGAYEN — Athletes from Southern Mindanao (Davao Region XI) dominated the opening day of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) national games here on Monday, garnering five gold medals.
The weeklong sports competition is held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.
Region 4-A (Southern Tagalog) won three golds to trail Southern Mindanao in the medal standing.
Region XI won the shot put for men and women, the 1,500 meter run for men and women and the 1,500 meter run for men.
Muscular Edward Pascua tossed the shot put to 12.98 meters to lead in the men’s division while teammate Shara Grace Tesaluna won the women shot put event, throwing the iron ball to 10.34 meters.
Judelyn Miranda also took the gold in the 1,500 meter run for women, running the distance in 4:49.81 minutes while Marlon Oracion breezed the 100-meter dash in 10.8 seconds.
Janice Sinoy snatched the fifth gold for Region XI in the women’s 100-meter dash, clocking 12.5 seconds.
Southern Mindanao’s two silvers came from Darrel Cabañero in men’s shot put, and Philip Ocon in 1,500 meter run for men.
Kayce Maala of Region IV-A leaped over 1:45-meter to win the women’s high jump, while teammate Rolly Gusi won the men’s division when he cleared the bar in 1.87 meters.
Alquin Bolivar accounted for Region IV-A’s third gold when he clocked 4:11.3 meters in the 1,500 meter run for men.
Western Visayan accounted for two golds, both from swimming when Edilbert Gallos topped in the men’s 200 meter free style in 2:14.31 while Kristine Cabasac also won the gold in the 200 meter free style for women in 2:45.22.
Western Visayas’ lone silver came from Editha Visitacion of Western Visayas placed second with a time of 2:45.72-meter.
Central Visayas came in third in the standing with one gold, two silvers and three bronzes.
It’s lone gold was won by Marlon Galo in the 100 meter breast stroke with a time of 1:14.45 (PNA)
