Regions 6 and 4-A share lead in swimming

Region 6 (Western Visayas) and Region 4-A (Southern Tagalog) share the lead in swimming with 11 points apiece for as many gold medals each in the swimming event in the Private Schools Athletic Association national games.

The swimming competition was held at Dagupan City’s the Olympic-size swimming pool built by the Philippine Tourism Authority in 1995 for the Palarong Pambansa which was turned over to the city of Dagupan later.

Western Visayas’ female swimmers amassed six golds and its five male swimmers five golds. These were the same outputs snatched by female and male swimmers, respectively, of Southern Tagalog.


Western Visayas’s 11 golds came from Edelbert Gallos in the men’s 200-meter free style, Kristine Cabasac in the women’s 200 meter free style, Editha Visitacion in the women’s 50-meter free style, men’s 400 meter free relay by Sean Mark Rose, Mark Catalan, Erik Litonjua and Karl Roger Vince Jayme, and in the women’s 400 meter free relay by Editha Visitacion, Kristy Litonjuan, Nianh Lyn Acain and Kristine Cabasac.

Southern Tagalog’s 11 golds came from Astrod Valdez in the women’s 200 meter fly and 400 meter individual midley, Mikko Carlos in the men’s 100 meter backstroke, 400 meter free relay by Sean Mark Rose, Mark Catalan, Erik Litonjua and Karl Roger Vince Jayme, Emmanuel Balacuit in 100 meter butterfly and Ariel Lawig in the men’s 200 meter breast stroke.

Region 11 (Southern Mindanao) and Region 7 (Central Visayas) share second place with three gold medals each.

Gold medallists for Southern Mindanao were Shahani Navarro in the 100 meter breast stroke, Haroon Cali in the 200 meter fly and Carlo Rodriguez in the 50 meter freestyle.

The gold medal winners for Region I were Marlon Galo in the 100 meter breast stroke and Juna Francis Bilao in the finals of men’s 100 freestyle.(PNA).
