LINGAYEN — Athletes from Southern Mindanao (Davao Region XI) dominated the opening day of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) national games here on Monday, garnering five gold medals.

The weeklong sports competition is held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.

Region 4-A (Southern Tagalog) won three golds to trail Southern Mindanao in the medal standing.

Region XI won the shot put for men and women, the 1,500 meter run for men and women and the 1,500 meter run for men.

Region 6 (Western Visayas) and Region 4-A (Southern Tagalog) share the lead in swimming with 11 points apiece for as many gold medals each in the swimming event in the Private Schools Athletic Association national games.

The swimming competition was held at Dagupan City’s the Olympic-size swimming pool built by the Philippine Tourism Authority in 1995 for the Palarong Pambansa which was turned over to the city of Dagupan later.

Western Visayas’ female swimmers amassed six golds and its five male swimmers five golds. These were the same outputs snatched by female and male swimmers, respectively, of Southern Tagalog.

VIEWED by many people as having some members engaged in not –so-wholesome activities even while in active duty, Dagupan City policemen will get a break from this impression once the plan of City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim to help them operate fishpens in certain designated parts of the city’s rivers goes full gear soon.

Lim’s move is aimed at weaning any member of the city police away from unlawful pursuits to augment his low salary. He said that under his scheme, the police through their cooperative, can build and operate and operate fishpens in order to boost their incomes.

Lim said he will issue Aqua-Culture Lease Agreement (ALA) to the police cooperative that will authorize it to build fishpens in designated portions of rivers here.

THE Teacher is the single and most important person in the teaching-learning process while motivation is the single and most important means towards student growth and achievement of goals. Properly motivated, children enjoy growing and moving forward, gaining new skills, abilities, power and knowledge. One half of the teacher’s work is done if her students are properly motivated.

Various theories of motivation have been suggested by psychologists and educators for developing techniques of motivating pupils in the classroom.

Motivation means providing with motive, that is stimulating the “will to learn.” Motivation connotes anything that impels or moves the pupil/student to activity. The term means the purposeful presentation to the pupils of adequate motives together with the necessary guidance and direction in order that the child may evaluate and appreciate worthwhile activities.
